Cattle Market in Red at Midday

Live cattle futures are trading 35 to 92 cents lower at midday. Front month feeder cattle futures are also lower, with midday losses of 52 cents to $1.10. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was down another 54 cents to $141.28 on 10/9. USDA reported a few Monday sales at $109 in TX and WCB. The FCE weekly online cattle auction has 774 head listed so far. Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed this morning, tightening the spread to $12.49. Choice boxes were down 70 cents cwt. to $213.92, and select boxes were $1.09 higher. Monday’s FI cattle slaughter is estimated at 117,000 head. That is 1,000 above last Monday, and up 2k from the same Monday a year ago.

Jan 21 Feeder Cattle are at $132.550, down $1.100
