Cattle Close Higher on Turnaround Tuesday

Afternoon live cattle trading recovered midday losses and left the board 40 to 67 cents in the black. Feeder cattle also rallied off the midday lows and closed with $0.57 to $1.27 gains. The October 12 Feeder Cattle Index from CME was down another 52 cents to $140.71. USDA reported light Tuesday sales at $107-108 in NE and WCB. Southern deals were $109 on Monday. The FCE weekly online cattle auction has 774 head listed for tomorrow. Wholesale boxed beef prices were lower in the PM report leaving the Chc/Sel spread at $12.36. Choice boxes were down by $2.18 to $212.44 cwt. Select boxes were also 26 cents lower. Tuesday’s FI cattle slaughter was estimated at 120,000 head, setting the week’s kill at 237k. WTD slaughter is 1,000 head above last week’s pace and 3,000 head above the same week a year earlier.
