Cattle Market Working Lower

Live cattle futures are trading in the red, with losses of 30 to 70 cents in the front months. Front month feeder cattle futures are mixed with limited gains in the 2020 expiry months and triple digit losses further out. The October 13 Feeder Cattle Index from CME was back up 21 cents to $140.92. Wednesday sales were reported at $107-$109, with the majority at $108. Dressed deals WTD have been light, but mostly at $169. Wholesale boxed beef prices were lower this morning. Choice boxes were $210.54 down by $0.60 and Select boxes were $2.38 weaker at $196.89. USDA estimates WTD cattle slaughter through Wednesday at 356k head. That is up 1,000 wk/wk and 5k above last year.

Dec 20 Cattle are at $109.625, down $0.650,

Feb 21 Cattle are at $112.525, down $0.700,

Oct 20 Feeder Cattle are at $138.500, up $0.125

Nov 20 Feeder Cattle are at $136.375, up $0.050

Jan 21 Feeder Cattle are at $132.350, down $0.975
