Cattle in Red at Midday

Cattle futures are down 17 to 77 cents. Feeders are in the black at midday, with gains limited to 85 cents in the front months. The October 19 Feeder Cattle Index dropped $1.60 to $138.66. The FCE online cattle auction sold 702 of the 1,096 listed. The cattle sold were mostly $106.50, but one pen went for $106.25. Cash cattle business reported by USDA has been light WTD, trades have been $103-$106.50 with the bulk near $106. Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed in the AM report. Choice boxes were quoted at $209.65, down by 95 cents, whereas Select was 30 cents higher to $191.97. USDA’s estimate for Tuesday’s cattle kill is 121,000 head. The WTD slaughter total is 239k, up 2,000 wk/wk and 3,000 head above the same week last year.
